Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr is optimistic the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia will be a good outing for the Super Eagles.
Rohr, 64, guided the West Africa football powerhouse to a sixth World Cup berth following a hard fought 1-0 win against Zambia in Uyo Saturday.
They officially became the first African nation to book a ticket to the global event followed by Egypt a day later.
“I believe Russia 2018 will be a good adventure for us all,” the German, who previously coached Burkina Faso told the NFF.
The Super Eagles have never gone past the round of 16 in five attempts despite their immense potential.
Rohr thanked Nigerians for the feat saying it was a collective effort, “Thank you Nigerians, we won this World Cup ticket together.”
The all-important goal came through Arsenal’s forward Alex Iwobi in the 74th minute after coming on as a substitute in the 65th minute.
Meanwhile, the NFF Secretary General, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi has dispelled claims that five fans lost their lives at the Akwa Ibom Stadium during the match.
“There is absolutely no truth to the report that fans died, there were some pushing and shoving at the gates, but that was natural considering the numbers that wanted to watch the match live,” Sanisu said.
He added that those who sustained injuries were taken in for treatment and the federation is in contact with the authorities.
