Ronny Van Geneugden has been appointed as the new head coach of Malawi’s national football team.

The Belgian tactician has penned a two-year deal with the Flames and will be incharge during the upcoming international friendly aganist Kenya set to be played on 18th April in Machakos.

Van Geneugden, who is a former coach of Belgian Premier League club Genk and Second Division side Oud-Heverleen Leuven, was last employed by Cypriot side, Enosis Neon Paralmni.

He succeeds Burundian Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan, who took charge for just one match, leading the Flames to a 1-0 victory over Swaziland in a 2017 Nations Cup qualifier last year.

Ramadhan had taken charge of the side following the sacking of Ernest Mtawali in July of the same year.

The new coach will be deputized by George Phiri-the acting Flames head coach immediately as the team prepares their clash against Madagascar in their opening match of the 2018 Chan qualifying campaign which gets underway this month.

Van Geneugden becomes the second expatriate coach to be incharge of Malawi for the past five years.

The last expatriate coach was a fellow Belgian Thom Saintfiet who left the post after failling to guide Malawi to 2014 African Cup of Nations.
