By Jafferson Ndhlovu,
Prophetic Healing Deliverance (PHD) church founder and leader Prophet Walter Magaya, who is the owner and Technical Director of Zimbabwean premiership side Yadah Stars FC is reportedly heading to break the dominance of men.
Stories doing rounds are that he is the process of engaging for Zimbabwe women’s national team captain and coach Rosemary Magadza. This will be the first for a woman to sit in the dug out as head coach in history top flight football.
This news could open up the avenue for many women who could have been feeling frightened to take up coaching in the male dominated field.
It would be an interesting turn of events. Prophet Magaya seemingly has stood his grounds to still keep his technical team on suspension for alleged insubordination.
Magadza is contracted with Harare City Queens as their coach. Strangely though the Queens are owned by the City Council who in turn also run a men’s premiership side Harare City FC. It remains to be seen how this will pan out.
Magaya and Yadah are running against time to have technical team in place before the weekend matches. Zifa the country’s mother body has indicated that they would not tolerate a situation where football is run like a social welfare society. They could come hard on Magaya and his club.
Most coaches in country are not keen on the job due to stringent and difficult working conditions. Some of them are not conventional football tenets. Among those issues include the coach having to join the family of PHD Church for fellowship.
The 48 year old Rosemary’s husband is said to have recanted the story saying it won’t hold as the wife is an employee of Harare City Queens. We are yet to see how this pans out.
But whatever the outcome, the mere mention of a female managing a top flight club would good news to all aspiring women.
