It was another match, another win for KPL Champions Gor Mahia who are unbeaten locally this year as they dispatched hosts Administration Police 3-1 to progress to the semis of the Kenyan Cup (GOTV Shield ).
The early kick off game at City Stadium saw K’Ogalo take charge of the proceedings from the first blow of the whistle to the last, bossing their opponents with an overwhelming ball possession.
The Opener:
George Odhiambo “BlackBerry” broke the deadlock 17 minutes into match after being picked by Ali Abondo on the right against a run of play to unleash a low drive from tight a angle in between the legs of the AP goalkeeper to the delight of the “green army”.
BlackBerry scored a brace five minutes to half time, this time from Harun Shakava’s long pass from the midfield. The speedy winger who enjoyed a free role in the match before being substituted due to what looked like a knock on his right knee, chested the ball then beat his marker before unleashing a grass cutter past the keeper on the far right corner of the goal for a 2-0 scoreline.
The Frank Nuttall men retired into the breather tails up and they returned for the second half even more dangerous.
AP changed tact after failing to contain K’Ogalo with thier first half defensive approach, opting to open play by venturing more forward – a strategy which bore fruit as they looked quite threatening in attack unlike before.
Their efforts were rewarded at the one hour mark when Mzee’s well taken shot from outside the box from a beautiful build up caught keeper Jerry Onyango flat footed.
Sensing danger, the visitors stepped up their game in search of the third goal. Enock Agwanda was then brought on for injured BlackBerry but it was Michael Olunga’s introduction in the last minutes of the game which made a significant change.
Fresh from national duty with the Harambee Stars in Praia, Cape Verde, the Engineer didn’t slow down as he set up his striking partner Meddie Kagere for the third and the final goal of the evening at the blow of the final whistle.
Gor Mahia will now face FKF-PL side Nakumatt FC in the semis at a later date.
