Farouk Miya’s curved in a beautiful freekick from the left in the 40th minute to hand the Uganda Cranes a historic victory over the west Africans. The first leg, second round 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier was played on Thursday 12 in Lome,Togo.
Miya will go into the history books as the first Ugandan to score against Togo and gift them their first win in five attempts. Uganda has lost all their last four matches against the Sparrows conceding 8 unanswered goals in the process.
The coach Tom Saintfeit charges had a perfect opportunity to equalize in the early second half of the game from the spot but Dossevi penalty was saved by Uganda keeper Dennis Onyango.
Cranes should have killed the game much earlier from two counter attack situations involving Captain Godfrey Massa and Hamis Kiiza but their efforts never bore fruit.
Togo travels to Kampala for the return leg slated for Sunday 15 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.
