After putting out the Flames of Malawi on Saturday, Tanzania’s Taifa Stars coach Charles Mkwasa says there is no time to rest for his charges.
Mkwasa said they are now switching focus to the next Fifa World Cup qualifying match against Africa number one team, Algeria, next month.
Mkwasa said this on Saturday after Tanzania lost 1-0 at Kamuzu Banda Stadium in Malawi, but still qualified to the next round 2-1 on aggregate after winning the first leg 2-0 in Dar es Salaam last Wednesday.
“Next is Algeria and we have to arrange ourselves. Algeria is tougher team than Malawi and we need to do our home work,”Mkwasa said.
“We worked hard against Malawi making use of home ground advantage. Malawi too used home ground advantage. We could not play our normal game. Malawi played a very high tempo game from the first whistle.”
The Tanzania coach also defended his charges’ delaying tactics that denied Malawi an opportunity to sneak in a second goal.
“That is part of football. There is nothing strange,” Mkwasa noted.
Malawi coach Ernest Mtawali said the second leg loss proved to be their biggest undoing.
“Now, we need to play friendly games. It is important for these youngsters to play together and get international exposure,” Mtawali.
