Egypt have been drawn against the hosts in Group A of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup draws conducted in inside the walls of the Kremlin in Russia today.
The Pharaohs will be making their third appearance at the FIFA World Cup and will come also face Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.
Egypt’s first appearance came at the 1934 World Cup in Italy. The Egyptian side were knocked out in the first round by Hungary via a 4-2 score-line in Naples.
Their last appearance was 27 years ago at Italia 90 where they were pitted against England, Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland.
The Pharaohs failed to make it past the group stages drawing against Netherlands (1-1), The Republic of Ireland (0-0) before losing their last match 1-0 to England. Egypt finished bottom of the group with a paltry 2 points.
Russia 2018 presents a good opportunity for the seven time African Champions to really shine and make a mark on the world stage.
Egypt have a well balanced squad with Players that have the ability to compete at the world cup.
Héctor Cúper will be relying on the likes of Veteran goal keeper Essam El-Hadary (Al Taawoun) , Ramadan Sobhi (Stoke City), Ahmed Hegazi (West Brom), Mohamed El Nenny (Arsenal), Marwan Mohsen (Al Ahly) and Mohamed Salah (Liverpool).
Salah in particular has been in form for his club Liverpool and should he replicate his current scoring prowess in Russia, Egypt will be difficult to contend with.
Group A is a favourable draw for the Egyptians and it is very possible for them to progress to the last 16.
Egypt open their campaign against Uruguay on 15 June, and later face the host Russia in the second game on 19 June . They finish off the group stages with Saudi Arabia on 25 June.
