The Government of Kenya, together with Football Kenya Federation, have confirmed that the national football team, Harambee Stars, will leave the country on Monday 16 a board a chatered plane direct to Cape Verde for the reverse leg of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The decision to charter a plane is informed by the route challenges posed by the destination of Praia which would otherwise keep the team in travel long for more than 24 hours through Europe.
Further, the events that happened on Friday night in Paris, where coordinated terror attacks led to the dark of more than 100 people means the routing through Paris could not guarantee the safety of the team.
FKF has also reaffirmed that players allowances and outstanding air ticket refunds will be cleared before the team’s departure on Monday morning.
Kenya carries slim 1-0 advantage over the Islanders caurtesy of Michael Olunga goal in Nairobi on Friday 13. The aggregate winners books a slot in the group stage of the road to Russia.
