Russia 2018 – Mercurial Ayub Timbe out of the Blue Sharks’ way.

Kenya will miss the services of Belgian based Ayub Timbe Masika when they clash with Cape Verde in the first leg of the second round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday 13 at Nyayo Stadium.

Timbe who plays for second division side Lierse SK picked an injury last week while on club duty. The play maker was instrumental in Harambee Stars 5-2 massacre of Mauritius in the preliminaries netting the second goal in a beautiful fashion from a corner kick.

In his absence, there are three options in Ali Abondo, Clifton Miheso, Christian Bwany and Kevin Kimani – the trio fits the bill judging by their splendid club form.

“It’s a set back knowing his abilities but there is no cause for worry as we have suitable replacements. The four can fit in well, they just need to transfer their super club form to the national team.” Stars assistant Coach Musa Otieno said.

Kenya beat the Blue Sharks home and away on their trip to AFCON 2004 in Tunisia, a feat they can draw inspiration from despite the fact that the two sides are now miles apart. The Islanders have been to the World Cup since while Kenya has never qualified for a major tournament since the 2004 achievement.
