Kenya’s search for a substantive coach is said to have ended with Dutch coach Ruud Krol expected to be appointed head coach, according to reports.

Krol has reached an agreement after holding fruitful talks with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and will be unveiled to the fans in the coming days.

Harambee Stars have been without a substantive coach since the departure of Paul Put in February this year with Stanley Okumbi acting as stop-gap coach. Okumbi was hoping to be named again permanent coach but it appears that will not be possible.

Krol is well known in African football having previously coached Tunisia national team and also Egypt Olympic team as well as various North African topflight clubs.

The much traveled coach was also once a manager of AC Ajaccio in France Ligue 2 from 2006 to 2007 before he joined  Egyptian giants Zamalek at the same capacity in August 2007 having  previously managed them from 1994 to 1999, winning the Egyptian Cup in 1999, the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1996 and the Afro-Asian Club Championship 1997, the last two being the biggest club level prizes available to CAF clubs.

Former Netherlands World Cup captain has coached several Tunisian sides among them Esperance and won the domestic league and cup.

His individual honors include being named in FIFA World Cup All-Star Team (2) in 1974 and 1978,UEFA Euro Team of the Tournament in 1976,FIFA XI in 1979,Ballon d’Or third place in 1979 and Guerin d’Oro (Serie A Footballer of the Year) in 1981.

Krool has won the South African league with several clubs and was named the PSL Coach of the season in 2010-2011.

His immediate task will be guiding the team past Ghana in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier set for September.
