Amavubi coach Johhny McKinstry heads to Tanzania today to assess Rwanda internationals Haruna Niyonzima and Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza before connecting to Kenya on Saturday to watch Jacques Tuyisenge and Abouba Sibomana in action.
The Northern Irishman makes a tour of the two countries before naming the squad for the upcoming double header against Mauritius in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers later this month.
In Dar es Salaam, McKinstry will watch the Tanzanian Premier League clash between two giants Young Africans (Niyonzima) and Azam FC (Migiraneza) at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Saturday.
From Dar-es-Salaam, the former Sierra Leone trainer will fly to Nairobi where he will watch Tuyisenge and Sibomana featuring for Gor Mahia against AFC Leopards on Sunday.
“I will be in Tanzania and Kenya to watch our players before naming the squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Mauritius,” McKinstry told Times Sport on Thursday.
Rwanda will play away to Mauritius on March 26 before hosting the return leg three days later. McKinstry has described the two qualifiers as a do-or-die for his side; if Amavubi is keep alive the dream of qualifying for a second AFCON finals tournament, after debuting in 2004 in Tunisia.
Rwanda is second in Group H with 3 points, three points behind leaders Ghana. Mauritius are third also with 3 points while Mozambique are bottom without a point.
