Ferwafa president and head of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Vincent Nzamwita has said that all the four stadiums that will host matches during the forthcoming African National Championship are in good condition and ready for matches.
The championships, meant for domestic players in national leagues, will get underway on January 16 through February 7.
Nzamwita said that works at Amahoro National Stadium and Kigali Regional Stadium in Nyamirambo had been completed.
The two facilities, along with the Huye and Umuganda (Rubavu) stadiums will host the continent’s second biggest football tournament, which will attract 16 national teams in Africa.
He said Rwanda Housing Authority had assured that all construction works will be done before end of the year.
“There are only a few remaining activities on Huye and Umuganda stadiums but otherwise we are good to go,” he said.
Preparations also included availing training grounds close to each of the stadiums.
Rwanda last hosted a major competition in 2011 when it played host to the U-17 Africa championships finals which eventually saw four teams, including Amavubi, represent Africa at the subsequent 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico.
Amahoro is the largest stadium of the four with a capacity of 25,000, followed by Huye (10,000), Kigali Regional Stadium (7,000) and then Umuganda (5,200).
