Rwanda assistant coach Vincent Mashami is in charge of the under-23 side as they prepare for the return leg against Uganda Kobs in the Caf under-23 Championship/Rio Olympic qualifier. The game is on May 30 at the Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium in Kampala.
Mashami replaces Johnny McKinstry at the helm following the Irishman’s departure to Europe on Saturday night to attend to a long-standing commitment of pursuing the Uefa Pro License.
The agreement was made between Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) and McKinstry at the time of his appointment in March.
“I have full confidence in Vincent Mashami to oversee the team because he understands what we want to achieve going into the return leg,” explained McKinstry.
Mashami has been joined by Gicumbi coach Emmanuel Ruremesha with goalkeeping coach Ibrahim Mugisha maintaining his role with the national team.
Meanwhile, Sunrise FC attacking midfielder Vedaste Niyibizi has replaced injured Maxime Sekamana, who is nursing an Achilles heel injury to his right leg.
McKinstry is expected to return to Kigali in time to commence Amavubi’s preparations for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign which kicks off in June with a game against Mozambique in Maputo scheduled for the weekend of June 13-14.
