Rwandan League round up – AS Kigali thumps Sunrise to go joint top on the log

A hat-trick from striker Rodriguez Murengezi and a goal from Hamidou Ndayisaba helped AS Kigali move to the top of the Azam Rwanda Premier League Standings after thumping Sunrise Fc 4-0 at Mumena stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Sunrise Fc were were hoping to recover from the mid week 1-0 loss to Marines but their quest was tormented by the resurgent AS Kigali who were gunning to extend their perfect start of the season.

The Jimmy Mulisa led-side started the game on a promising note with Mike Segawa threatening to find the net for the visitors but goalie Shamiru Batte was pivotal as he made some brilliant saves.

Striker Rodriguez opened the scoring spree in the 41st minute to ensure that AS Kigali goes into recess in lead. After recess, Murengezi doubled the score with another brilliant goal scored in the 50th minute before netting his third of the day in the 60th minute.

Midfielder Hamidou Ndayisaba hammered in the fourth goal for the Kigali City sponsored side with five minutes to the end of the game to help AS Kigali climax the third day of the Azam Rwanda Premier League action seated at the top of the standings with seven points and a one goal difference over Police FC.

Murengezi’s hat-trick took took him to top of the top scorer’s standings with four goals were he is followed by Mukura’s Christopher Ndayishimiye and Musanze’s Peter Otema with three goals respectively.

Elsewhere, Peter Otema and Jean Pierre Muhindo earned maximum points for Musanze as they edged AS Muhanga at Muhanga stadium while Gicumbi snatched a 1-0 win over Marines in Gicumbi.

On Saturday, Rayon Sports failed to collect maximum points after being held to a goalless draw bottom-placed Etincelles at Tam Tam grounds.

Rayon Sports are fifth joint on four points with Rwamagana, AS Kigali, Espoir, APR FC, Bugesera and Amagaju while Etincelles are 15th with one point ahead of bottom-placed AS Muhanga who are yet to secure a win.

In Muhanga, Burundian import Christopher Ndayishimiye scored a brace to send Mukura VS to third sport on the Azam Rwanda Premier League table with six points.

At Mumena turf, Innocent Seninga’s led side SC Kiyovu grabbed their first maximum points of the season following a 2-0 win over visitors Amagaju.

Defender Amani Uwiringiyimana and striker Andre Lomami were on target for the Nyamirambo-based club who have now risen to third spot with five points.

On Friday, Police Fc and reigning champions APR Fc shared the spoils in the first derby of the season which was played at Kicukiro Stadium.

Jean Claude Iranzi gave the visitors APR Fc the lead after 14 minutes, through a 25-yard-shot which thundered past Emery Mvuyekure in the Police goal.

But Songa Isaie equalized for the hosts following a defensive blunder which allowed him to level the scores at 1-1 in the 75th minute and register his second goal of the season.

Both teams continued to press forward in search of a winner with the scores locked at 1-1 until the final whistle.

In another match played in Nyamata, new league entrants Bugesera Fc secured their first maximum points of the season as they edged Rusizi-based Espoir Fc 2-0 courtesy of a brace from Djihad Rucogoza.
