After eliminating Mbabane Swallows, APR Football Club will play Young Africans of Tanzania in the first qualification round of CAF Champions League on the weekend of March of 11-12—the first leg will be in Kigali and the return leg a week later in Dar es Salaam.
Central defender Abdul Rwatubyaye netted a hat trick and midfielder Patrick Sibomana added another as the Rwandan champions overturned a 1-0 deficit from the first leg to win 4-1, and progressed to the next phase 4-2 on goals aggregate.
The Rwanda international youngster opened the scoring in the eighth minute after a well taken free kick from Jean-Claude Iranzi, the 19-year old added a second seven minutes later, again from Iranzi’s corner and he completed a historic treble in the 75th minute, with Iranzi once again the provider.
Amavubi winger, Iranzi, was at it again, this time setting up Sibomana for the fourth goal in the 90th minute.
Mbabane Swallows consolation goal was scored in the 26th minute by Sanele Mkhweli after his shot was deflected by Emery Bayisenge.
Young Africans beat Cercle de Joachim of Mauritius 2-0 proceed with a 3-0 aggregates. Burundian Amiss Tambwe and Thabani Kamusoko scored on Sunday in Dar es Salaam.
“I am happy with the win. It was not going to be easy if we had lost, so we have to be happy. Right now I am not thinking about Young Africans. I am going to focus on the local league,” APR coach Emmanuel Rubona said after the game.
