South Africa’s National First Division side Royal Eagles has completed the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs and Proline FC winger Sula Matovu on a one-year deal, the club has confirmed.
Matovu last played competitive football for Kaizer Chiefs in 2016 before his relationship with the club however grew frosty and his contract was terminated after making seven apperances for the club as he was deemed surplus to requirements.
“He [Matovu] signed a contract and he’s now working on getting his work permit and we are working on his ITC,” said Eagles coach, Kosta Papic.
The Ugandan international started his playing career while still in school before joining Proline FC soccer academy in 2007. While at the academy he showed remarkable ability and great performance and joined Nalubaale Buikwe in Uganda Super League .
After one season he re-joined Proline FC where he scored regularly in Uganda Premier League due to his great technique, burst of speed as he takes off opponents, accurate shooting and ball crossing, good and close ball control, dribbling and passing as well as nice displays in soccer matches enticed the Uganda national football team coach Bobby Williamson who called him for Uganda national football team. He has also featured for U20 Uganda national football team and U23 Uganda national football team.
Matovu moved to Ethiopia joining St.George FC from Proline and after six months he then joined Iraq side Erbil before crossing to Sweden where he had a stint with BK Hacken before moving to Kaizer Chiefs on a six months deal.
