Said Ali Said Athouman is the new Comoros Football Federation  (FFC) president having been elected during Saturday’s General Assembly in Moroni.

He received an overwhelming mandate after garnering 40 votes out of a total of 52 and will now stay in office till end of the current term next year September.

Said’s main changers for the top seat Youssouf Chaehoi and Housseine Ali only managed 7 and 5 votes respectively.

He succeeds Salim Tourqui who resigned in November 2017 – throwing the federation into a leadership crisis.

The former FFC National Executive Committee member receives an organization whose image is buttered will numerous allegations of corruption and in financial distress.

Some of his immediate challenges will be to convince the world’s football governing body FIFA and the corporate world to recommit to support football in the country.

“First of all, we need to get in touch with our partners FIFA and CAF to allow resumption of various projects that stalled since the November crisis.

“At the local level, we will soon exchange ideas with the different football structures of the country regarding our action plan but also hear their views and proposals.

“We must work together to carry out our mission,” Said said.

He added: “We also need to modernize the governance of the federation; improve communication and bring transparency to the actions of the institution.”
