Belgium Pro League 2016/17 season kicked off on Sunday with eight matches on the cards.

KRC Genk were among the six winners of the day beating visiting KV Oostende 2-1 at Luminus Arena.

Goals from Nikolaos Kerelis and Mbwana Samatta all in the second half done the deal for the Peter Maes’ side that have found their rhythm early having been active in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers.

Oostende’s consolation was delivered through Knowledge Musona.

The first half was balanced with both sides having their moments but it was Genk who created the best chance on the half hour mark when Leon Bailey found Alejandro Pozuelo, with the Spaniard crossing deep to Kerelis who shot wide. The half ended goalless.

The visitors started the second half stronger and had El Ghanassy attempt blocked by a forest of legs before Musona shot on target minutes later.

Wilfred Ndindi picked Sandy Walsh on the right who dropped a pin point pass to Kerelis, and the striker buried the opener in the 50th minute.

Taifa Stars skipper Mbwana Samatta then came on as a substitute for Neekens Kabeno ten minutes to regulation time.

The former TP Mazembe dreaded striker settled in fast and a minute into the three added minutes he drilled home Leandro Trossard cross from the left for a 2-0 comfortable lead.

But Oostende was not giving up just yet as Musona pulled a consolation on the dot, however, too late to salvage a point.

Genk is joint top of the log together with Zulte, Club Brugge and Anderlecht.
