St. George edged Jimma Aba Bunna 1-0 to reach Addis Ababa City Cup semi-finals on Tuesday. Defense picked second point, after being held 2-2 by Ethio-Electric.

“The horsemen’s” lone goal was delivered through young sensation Abubakar Sani, who struck in the 79th minute for his third of the tournament.

The win was St.George’s second on the trot, after Saturday’s 4-1 thrashing of Ethio-Electric in their opening group “A” fixture.

Jimma, who picked a point in their previous barren draw against Defense, showed great resilience, warding off persistent attacks from the Ethiopian champions. Keeper Jemal Tessew did well to foil sustained raids from prolific striker Saladin Seid, but he could do little to stop wonder kid Sani.

Jimma’s new catch, Ugandan Christome Ntambi game a greet account of himself.

In the other group match, Ethio-Electric went ahead in the 16th minute, through Ivorian striker Ibrahim Fofanah, but ten minutes later Defense replied through Samuel Saliso.

The electricity men would regain the lead in the 61st minute, with Burundian new signing Didier Kavumbagu announcing his arrival in style, but it was another new catch, Yetesha Gizaw who neutralised the score for Defense in the 82nd minute.

Group “B” matches on Wednesday produced no winners, as the two matches registered fruitless draws. Addis Ababa City recovered from Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Nigid Bank to pick a point against Dedebit.

Adama City who thrashed Dedebit 3-0 on Sunday, were held by Nigid Bank.
