Senegal put up a splendid performance beating host nation Qatar 1-3 in their second Group A match played at the Al Thumama Stadium on Friday.
It was a good response from Aliou Cisse’s side after suffering defeat in the first game against Netherlands.
Goals from Boulaye Dia, Famaran Diedhiou and Bamba Dieng secured the three points for the Teranga Lions.
The game was evenly matched as both sides looked for a clear opening in the first 35 minutes. But just as the game was going into the break Dia capitalized from a defensive lapse to slot home from close range in the 41st minute.
Diedhiou headed in to put Senegal two goals to the good 3 minutes into the second half before Muntari pulled one for the hosts to send a few nerves into the Senegal team. Senegal would seal the victory with Bamba Dieng profiting from a well -executed cross by Ndiaye.
Senegal gets their first win of the 2022 World Cup with a convincing victory while Qatar are knocked out of the competition.
Aliou Cisse’s focus now shifts to Ecuador whom they face in the final Group A match on Tuesday at the Khalifa International Stadium.
