Senegalese right back Moussa Wague, who’s the youngest African player to score a goal at the FIFA World Cup, is set to join Barcelona. At 19 years & 236 days, the youngster made history against Japan in Russia. He’s expected to join the B team then gain promotion in December

As per a report from Spanish outlet Sport, La Liga champions Barcelona are set to secure the signature of Eupen defender Moussa Wague later today.

Wague, a 19-year-old right-back, came up through the ranks of the Aspire Academy in Qatar, before making the move to Belgium with Eupen in November of 2016.

The stopper has since gone on to make 40 appearances across all competitions at the Kehrwegstadion, though it was his showings at this summer’s World Cup in Russia which have reportedly seen Wague added to the wish lists of a number of European football’s biggest clubs.

Though Senegal only appeared in a total of 3 matches, the dynamism and power possessed by a number of the stars of The Lions of Teranga quickly caught the eye of onlookers, with the frankly-frightening duo of Wague and Ismaïla Sarr down the Senegalese right-flank having terrorized the backlines of Japan and Poland.

A report from Mundo Deportivo 2 weeks ago revealed that one of the clubs to have been intrigued by Wague’s showings this summer were La Liga powerhouse Barcelona.

The Blaugrana have long been rumoured to be eyeing reinforcements at right-back, in a bid to allow Sergi Roberto to return to his natural position in the middle of the park.

And, as per the aforementioned report  this afternoon, Barca have now taken their interest in Wague’s signature a step further, amid claims that the powerful stopper is set to sign for the Catalan outfit over the coming hours.

Wague is expected to train with Ernesto Valverde’s first-team, but take to the pitch for the club’s B-Team for the time being.
