Seven tantalizing matches will entertain fans across Nairobi as the first season of the SportPesa Super 8 Premier League (SPS8 PL) comes to an end on Saturday 24 September after seven months of nothing but pure grass root football action.
Champions TUK, Kayole Asubuhi and Jericho All Stars will be out for nothing but wins in their corresponding fixtures but only one of them will walk home with the league title and the Ksh 1 million winners’ award.
KIAMAIKO CITY VS KAYOLE ASUBUHI (3PM)
Leaders Asubuhi have their fate in their hands as they only need a win of any kind when they face underdogs Kiamaiko City for their final game of the season at Huruma grounds. The East conference bigwigs cannot afford slip up as a draw or a loss could completely extinguish their dreams of lifting the championship title which is within sight.
Asubuhi who are under the tutelage of former Kenya International Isaiah ‘Song’ Omondi have stealthily crept at the helm of the standings breaking the dominance of Jericho.
Once again, the early risers will rely on their top goal hunter Joel Mutua and compatriot Tobias Olum to deliver the goals which are expected to carry them to the top honors.
Asuibuhi who have 61 points at the top have all the advantage as they tackle Kiamaiko who are struggling at 13th with 34 points.
TUK VS METRO SPORTS (3PM)
With a more goal advantage, champions TUK have tricky fixture against Metro Sports at Baba Dogo grounds and the students will be gunning for nothing less than a victory while they hope that Asubuhi and Jericho slip-up with either a loss or a draw for them to make history as the first team to win the competition back to back.
But to achieve that, the Francis Oduor charges who sit second on the log with 60 points must be clinical in front of goal against the shaky Metro who are bitter of missing the top four slot after
relinquishing the favorites tag back in the first leg. The Sportsmen are currently at sixth on 47 points and should be enough test for the students as they drew 1-1 in the first leg.
Can TUK help the West conference retain the bragging rights? This will question will best be answered by the league’s current top scorer and golden boot contender Jeconiah ‘Jeco’ Uyoga who will be on the spotlight during the match. He has netted 25 times in the competition and will likely team up with Stephen Odhiambo upfront in search for the goals.
JERICHO ALL STARS VS BABA DOGO UNITED (3PM)
Jericho will be in nerveless mood when they cross swords with relegation bound Baba Dogo United at Camp Toyoyo grounds. Jericho are in dire search for a win while they pray that Asubuhi and TUK lose their respective matches for them to win the competition.
After harsh critic of their goal thirst in the recent last three matches that has seen their sheer dominance go up in flames, Thomas Okongo’s mighty Jericho will be under intense pressure from the huge fan base to deliver. With their bitter 1-0 loss to Asubuhi a fortnight ago still haunting them as it threw their campaign in tatters, the Makadara based outfit will summon all their might and strength to usurp Baba Dogo while cross their fingers and hope lady luck smiles back at them.
Flamboyant goal darter Victor Pompii Walera and his compatriot Eddie Kuria are expected to run the show in a bid to spare Jericho from humiliation at the hands of second-from the bottom Baba Dogo who have managed a meagre 23 points in the entire competition.
KAWANGWARE UNITED VS KIAMBIU YOUTH (3PM)
West siders Kawangware United invite Kiambiu Youth at Bp grounds in Kawangware as they seek to end the competition on a high note.
Kawangware will rely on veteran forward Francis Thairu to see them past the East siders who are a pale shadow of the team that lost the finals of Super 8 Soccer Tournament last year. Kawangware are sitting 10th with 38 points, four above Kiambiu Youth who sit 11th.
SHAURI MOYO BLUE STARS VS KABETE UNITED (3PM)
Shauri Moyo Blue Stars take on Kabete United at Makongeni grounds.
Kabete have a tall order to stop fourth-placed Blue Stars who are sitting fourth with 55 points. The west siders opportunity in the main league next year depends on the outcome of this match as a loss means they will be relegated to the Division One league. Robert Orangi’s Kabete are placed 13th with 32 points.
MELTAH KABIRIA VS DIGUNA FC (3PM)
Dagoretti based Melta Kabiria take on fellow West conference rivals Diguna FC at Ngong Posta grounds.
As the competition ends, Diguna will be seeking to bridge the four point gap separating them and Melta who are aiming for a win in order to go up on the standings. Melta are placed 8th with 43 points while Diguna are a place below on 49 points.
SHAMAKO BABES Vs AJAX FC (3PM)
Basement side Shamako Babes will be playing for honor when they confront fifth –placed Ajax FC at Kabete United.
After a poor performance in the league that has seen them concede the most goals in the competition (87), Shamako who have managed a mere 12 points are already relegated to the Division One league. Rongai based Ajax have 48 points.
