Al Ahly 1-1 Petrojet
Ethiopian international midfielder Shemeles Bekele denied giants Al Ahly a famous win as he helped his club Petrojet to a 1-1 draw in an entertaining game in the Egyptian premier league.
Saad Samir scored the Red Devils’ only goal before Shemeles Bekele equalised for the Blue-Reds in the second half.
The first half saw both teams going into the game with an attacking mentality and a fast rhythm, and in the 14th minute Al Ahly’s Walid Soliman was inches away from scoring the first of the game when he latched onto Mohamed Hany’s cross from the right flank, but his header went over the bar.
Just one minute later, the Red Devils came close once more; after a number of short passes on the edge of the box the ball fell to Trezeguet who passed the ball back to Abdalla El-Said but the latter put too much power behind the ball as it went over the bar.
The Red Devils were keen on scoring first, as they came close again minutes later. Hussein El-Sayed crossed the ball into the opposition’s box before Hossam Ghaly laid the ball off to Abdallah El-Said whose shot again went off target.
Petrojet’s first real chance of the game came through Shemeles Bekele near the hour mark. The visitors were on the counter attack as Ehab El Masry ran with the ball into Al Ahly’s empty midfield before squaring the ball to Bekele, but his shot was miraculously saved by Ekramy.
Al Ahly made it 1-0 in first half injury time when Walid Soliman cleverly played the ball to Saad Samir, before the defender skilfully overstepped the ball tricking both the El-Shenawy and Dabash before slotting the ball into the net.
Second half was a different ball game as The visitors started the game with total dominance over the reigning champions. In the 46th minute Ahmed El Shenawy’s pass put Bekele into space behind Ahly’s defence down the left flank, Bekele powerful shot went just wide of the post.
Petrojet equalised seven minutes later when Mohamed Nauib fouled Ehab El-Masry inside the box winning his side a penalty; Ekramy saved Bekele’s penalty kick but couldn’t save his side from the follow-up, as the Ethiopian made up for his penalty miss seconds later.
Inform player Mahmoud Trezeguet was on target with his shot from the edge of the box when he cut in from the left to take a shot that Mohamed El-Shenawy easily handled.
In the 77th minute, Trezeguet came close to scoring the winner. Walid Soliman squared the ball to the attacking midfielder on the edge of the six yard box, however the Egyptian international’s shot was beautifully saved by Mohamed El-Shenawy
Seven minutes before full time, Shenawy performed a stunning double save. Mohamed Rizk had a go from outside the box, which El-Shenawy dealed with, as well as dealing with Walid Soliman’s follow-up.
Another Ethiopia Salhadin Said who has recuperated from his nagging knew injury did not play for his club Al Ahly .
