President Uhuru Kenyatta promised to build stadiums in Nairobi Garissa ,Mombasa ,Kisumu and Eldoret but that was a real gimmick that never was
And in 2016 when Rwanda successfully hosted the 2016 CHAN tournament with just four stadium ,Kenya under Sam Nyamweya successfully made a bid to host the next edition but the reality has not been achieved .
It is believed that the Kenyan government has not been keen to have the tournament staged in Kenya as the President is under pressure to retain his seat after the supreme court nullified the results .
In 1996 Kenya suffered a similar fate when the Confederations of African Football stripped off its rights and instead awarded South Africa the rights due to political reasons

Kenya is set to hold another political presidential election on 26th October after the election of Uhuru Kenyatta was overturned considering the high octane campaigns fever in the country ,the nation on a campaign mood would likely jeorprdize the staging of the tournament .A surety of having or not another run off was practically inevitable with another prolonged election beckoning
In 1996 the then Kenyan president Daniel T Moi was reluctant to have the tournament hosted in Kenya with rumours of the opposition getting mileage taking centre stage
This intrigue forced CAF under Issa Hayatou to shift she rights to South Africa .
The Kenyan Football Federation officials have never been very truthful with the African Governing body CAF and have been pettily feeding CAF with PR statements in a matter that they knew well was a national issue .
Nick Mwendwa the FKF President has been very passionate and categorical on having Kenya host the tournament .He even admitted that he will resign if Kenya does not host CHAN tournament .
The president has been on shuttle diplomacy convincing CAF to have Kenya host the tournament after the President through the Ministry of Health approved 6Billion Kenya shillings to host the tournament
The last minute decision did not go well with CAF and was one of the reasons why the CAF supremo cancelled the rights for Kenya
One would ask why Kenya can’t host CHAN yet it successfully hosted the World U18 championship in this year .Politics in Kenya is instrumentally indecisive as you find the ruling party biased towards football claiming its an opposition initiative while claiming outside how they have successfully staged other disciplines .
The Kenyan common man is not happy that the rites have been stripped off them.
