Simba booked their spot in the final of the CAF Confederation Cup following a goalless draw against Stellenbosch on Sunday afternoon.

The host continued with Oscarine Masuluke in goal ahead of first-choice Sage Stephens and also gave a start to Chumani Butsaka.

The Maroons breathed a sigh of relief ten minutes in when a foul by Butsaka in the area led to a penalty, but the referee went over to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) monitor and overturned his decision.

Steve Barker’s men were keen to make their home ground advantage count and played on the front-foot repeatedly earlier on through Devon Titus and Butsaka.

Khomotjo Lekoloane was buoyant a little later as he ran at the defence of Simba and worried shot-stopper Moussa Camara on a couple occasions.

Maroons continued to have a strong finish to the half and saw a towering header in the box by Ismail Toure drew Camara to a smart save.

The host were given a penalty ten minutes after the break following a hand-ball from Thato Khiba’s cross, but it was overturned too by the VAR.

Stellenbosch kept coming though and played extensively on the edge of the visitors six-yard box, but lacked the efficacy to breakthrough and trouble Camara.

Maroons coach Steve Barker made two substitutes later on as Genino Palace came on for Butsaka while Sanele Barns replaced Lekoloane.

The introductions proved decisive in the final stages when a delivery resulted in a loose clearance and Palace finished off, but the VAR spotted an offside and the goal was disallowed.

Simba continued to find the going tough and needed a finger-tip save from Camara to deny Toure levelling off the head.

Camara remained influential as the minutes went by and steered the Tanzanian outfit over the line and secured their place in the Confederation Cup final.
