A formal request by the Yanga football club to only have their fans attend their CAF Champions League match against TP Mazembe on Tuesday has his a dead after TFF rejected it.
TFF through their media officer Alfred Lucas said that the decision to have only the hosts teams fans attending the stadium barring the other set of fans from rival clubs is not good for the growth of soccer.
He said it is the responsibility of the hosts team to provide security but again they will also ensure adequate security.
‘We have contacted the Tanzania Police and we will ensure enough security at the stadium, I urge each and every fan to ensure they maintain peace’ Alfred said
Yanga wanted 45,000 fans wearing Yanga colours only to attend stating that allowing the rival fans in the stadium will just cause chaos and hooliganism
Yanga are fearing that their main rival Simba supporters will cheer the visitors creating undue influence on the outcome coupled with chaos.
Simba media officer Haji Manara on his part said that Simba fans will attend the match as any other fan and there is no reason why they should be barred. Manara continued to say that in 2011 Yanga fans put on Mazembe jerseys cheering them when they(Simba) played Mazembe in the Champions league
Simba fans cheered Gor Mahia during the opening match of the Cecafa Kagaku cup in Dar es Salaam last year with the hosts losing that match 1-2.they faced the same fate when Yanga played their CAF Champions League matches before they were relegated to the Confederations cup.
Yanga face 2015 champions League winners TP Mazembe on Tuesday 18th at the National stadium in Dar. They lost their opening match 0-1 away at MO Bejaia. Mazembe beat Medeama of Ghana 3-1 in Lubumbashi
