Sam Ssimbwa has resigned as coach of Kenyan Premier League side Sofapaka FC with immediate effect.
The Ugandan coach is reported to have tendered his notice of resignation an hour after his team’s 1-2 loss to Thika United in a KPL match played on Sunday at Thika Stadium.
It’s not clear at this stage as to why Ssibwa resigned because the team has done reasonably well under his mentorship this season.
However, sources close to the club management the coach cited sabotage by some of the club senior players as reason for his departure.
The tactician who coached the Somali national team, Express, Police FC and KCCA in Uganda before joining Sofapaka is also reported to have accused the hierarchy of the club of not providing him the enabling environment to work.
Efforts to reach the club president Elly Kalekwa for a comment were not futile with the coach neither denying nor confirming the resignation.
“I cannot speak on the matter now but on Tuesday i will call you for a press conference, “said Ssimbwa.
Ssimbwa was said to be on a $2 500 a month contract that excluded a $ 500 house allowance and other bonuses.
He was appointed Sofapaka head coach for second stint in November 2016 at a time Sofapaka were struggling in the league and led them to a second place finish in the following season behind Gor Mahia.
Sofapaka are currently in fourth position on the log, having won five, drawn one and lost four of their 10 matches played.
They trail top-placed Mathare United by 7 points, having collected 23 points from ten games.
