The 2009 champions and 2014 KPL runners up managed to squeeze a 1-1 draw against the slums boys to claim second back to back draw in a midweek fixture that was staged at the Nyayo stadium on Thursday April 2, 2015; the Batoto Ba Mungu came into this game after two weeks rest and they looked rusty.
The match kicked off on a rather low note with the early exchanges being fifty-fifty; the match gradually animated and in the 19th minute Sofapaka via Fiston were the first to make meaningful attempt at the opponents’ goal, the danger man shot wide inside the box from Enock Agwanda’s pass.
Mathare United gave as much as they received and in the 27th minute their efforts were rewarded when David Mwaura perfectly connected Noah Abich’s corner kick to shoot the Stanley Okumbi’s boys ahead. Enoch Agwanda leveled the scores for Sofapaka from the spot after Mathare defender Edgar fighter Ochieng was judged to have brought down Fiston Abdul in the box.
The search for the winning goal continued in the second half with no success. Sofapaka are now 8th in KPL log while Mathare is placed 9th both have 5 points with the former enjoying a better goal difference.
