Momen Soliman has quit as coach of Egyptian giants Zamalek SC after unconvincing short stint.
Momen, who succeeded Mohammed Helmy three months back, promised to resign if he failed to clinch African champions league, which they lost 3-1 aggregate to Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa at Borg El Arab stadium, Sunday, October 23.
Helmy was relieved of his duties for losing twice to Sundowns at group phase of the champions league.
“If we lose I’ll resign, and I will not go to the club’s training sessions so that I don’t embarrass anyone if this happens,” the 42-year old was quoted just before first leg final away to Sundowns at Lucas Moripe Saturday, October 15.
The former Assiouty and Entag El-Harby manager was in charge of 11 games in all competitions, winning eight, losing two and drawing one (statistics courtesy of Kingfut.com).
He managed to guide “the white knights” to Egyptian cup glory after beating eternal rivals Al Ahly 3-1 in the final.
Momen becomes the sixth coach to leave the hot seat in the last one year, after Jesualdo Ferreira, Marcus Paqueta, Ahmed Hossam, Alex McLeish and Mohammed Helmy.
He leaves Zamalek 11th in Egyptian premier league table standings after four fixtures, with 10 points – 10 behind leaders Al Ahly, who have played four more matches. His last outing was a1-0 win over 7th placed Al Masry on Friday 4.
