Sony Sugar are still winless at their Awendo home turf after a frustrating goalless draw in an entertaining match where the hosts could have easily picked the three points were it not for Stima’s Joash Onyango heroics in defense.
Stima without coach Henry Omino endured a harsh Awendo water logged pitch to grab a point back to kisumu. Cheered by their chairman Laban Jobita after heavy downpour in the town, the visitors started strongly but lost momentum in the later stage of the first half.
The first half of the match was incidental with Western Stima keeper Gabriel Andika colliding head on with his defender Vitalis Okumu prompting the match to be stopped for some minutes. Akumu was rushed to the nearby Sony Medical Centre for treatment. He was replaced by Evans Bingo.
The match resumed but no team could find the back of the net resulting to a goalless first half.
On resumption both teams were hungry for goals with Wesley Kemboi on the Stima forward missing several tap ins and his opposite Robert Omunuk missing a sitter at the hour mark.
Kemboi was booked later after elbowing Sony Sugar defender Samuel Otieno.
Coach Leonard Odipo brought Situma Oscar Wekesa for Victor Asembeka and Daniel Ochieng for Hassan Mohamed.
Sony Sugar could have taken the lead in the 80th minute but Joash Onyango headed out Robert Omunuk’s shot that had passed through Stima’s keeper Andika.
Another golden chance for Sony Sugar was parried away by Andika after Victor Ademba thought he had put the sugar miller’s ahead.
The last ten minutes saw both teams look for the ultimate price, the winning goal but to no avail.
Fans were however impressed by the display of the host team in the second half despite the lack of goals.
The result means Sony still remains winless both at their home and away and are only ahead of Sofapaka.
