South Africa are through to the knockout phase of the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations after playing to a goalless draw with Tunisia in a tightly contested Group E match at Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium on Wednesday.
The draw means Tunisia have been knocked out of the tournament with the North Africans only managing 1 goal in their three group games.
Certainly it was not good enough for the Carthage Eagles as they finish bottom of Group E with only 2 points.
Knowing that a draw will be enough, Bafana Bafana played a cautious game with Themba Zwane and Percy Tau leasing the attack for the South Africans.
Zwane was rightfully awarded the player of the match at the end.
Hugo Broos’ dream of adding to his accolades another AFCON crown he won with Cameroon is still alive for him.
South Africa finish the Group on 4 points as runners up to Mali.
