South Africa under-20 defeated Ethiopia under-20 1-0 in the 2015 African Youth Championship second leg qualifier at the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday afternoon
The home side came into the match with a 2-0 aggregate lead from the first leg encounter played in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. North West Shining Stars striker Siyanda Ngubo and Black Urban striker Tshepo Chaine scored the two goals for Amajita.
The away side started the match well, but they were unable to seriously test Amajita goalkeeper Dumisani Msibi, who collected their long-range attempts with ease.
Amajita forward Nhlakanipho Ntuli missed a glorious opportunity in the 15th minute. The former Orlando Pirates player found himself unmarked inside the Ethiopia box, but he shot straight at the keeper.
The home side took the lead five minutes before the halftime whistle, when Ntuli made no mistake from the spot-kick beating the Ethiopian keeper with ease, after an Ethiopian defender was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.
The South Africans continued to dominate ball possession in the second half, but they were unable to convert their chances. Ajax Cape Town defender Ayabulela Magqwaka headed his attempt over the cross bar in the 65th minute.
With five minutes left on the clock, Amajita substitute Tshepo Chaine missed the target from 10 yards out, after Stars of Africa Academy winger Pule Maraisane played a through pass to him.
It ended 1-0 to the South Africans, and they won 3-0 on aggregate. Amajita will now face the winner between Burundi and Cameroon in the final round of qualification in August.
