African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2018 qualifiers for the Central-East Zone kick-started Saturday with South Sudan edging Somalia 2-1 in Djibouti.

The first round first leg match was staged at the El Hadj Gouled Aptidon Stadium, Djibouti due to the prevailing insecurity in Somalia.

Veteran James Joseph Moga scored South Sudan’s first goal six minutes into play with Mohammed equalizing for Somalia early second half in the 49th minute.

Leon Uso Khamis, the vice-captain of the Bright Stars, grabbed the winner in the 52nd.

The second leg will be played on April 28th in Juba with the aggregate winner taking on Uganda in July in the second round.

Two teams from the Central – East Zone will qualify for the showpiece slated for Kenya, who qualify automatically as hosts.
