The South Sudan Football Association goes to elections today with a new president expected to be elected to succeed immediate former boss Chabur Goc Alei.
Chabur, who is under investigations by the FA’s elections board, was disqualified from the race, for failing to meet eligibility criteria.
Three candidates will be challenging for the top seat including Francis Amin, who seen as the front runner, Lual Maluk Lual and Arop Joh Aguer.
The elections’ body has come under intense scrutiny in the lead up to the D-day with Amin’s faction accusing it of bending towards Lual’s camp.
Reforms and better management of football in South Sudan has been the main message from Amin.
The youngest FIFA member has endured torrid times since the world’s governing body suspended funding due to alleged corruption.
Amin, together with Dr. Tong, the Secretary General of the South Sudan Olympics Committee, recently made it possible for the national team the Bright Stars to honor their 2019 Afcon qualifying match against Burundi on Saturday. The trip to Bujumbura nearly aborted due to unavailability of funds.
Sestilio Juba Lerib is seen as the favorite to clinch the vice president seat. He will however have to ward off competition from Benasio Amum Deng.
