South Sudan premier league 2016 season has been cancelled due to “financial and logistical constrains.”
The decision was arrived at Tuesday, November 29, 2016 during an Emergency Extra Ordinary Meeting of the South Sudan Football Association’s Board of Directors.
The youngest member of CAF will therefore lack representation in the Champions League 2017, nonetheless, cup winners Al-Salam football club will play the second tier continental club competition, the Confederations Cup.
“South Sudan premier league 2016 is cancelled due to financial and logistical constrains, and therefore South Sudan will not participate in the African Cup Championship,” reads part one of the board’s resolutions.
“Al-Salam shall represent the country in the CAF Confederations Cup 2017,” part two reads.
SSFA is financially crippled since FIFA withdrew funding owing to misappropriation of funds from the world’s football governing body.
