SPL – Sony Coach throws in the towel, cites hostile working conditions

Head Coach of Sportpesa Premier league team Sony Sugar FC Leonard Odipo has quit his position in a huff citing hostile working environment at the Awendo based side.

Leonard joined Sony late last year from Tusker FC, where he worked under Coach Francis Kimanzi as an assistant.

He was in charge of only three league games in the new season; drawing one and losing two, including yesterday’s 1-0 loss to visiting Ushuru FC.

“It’s not been easy working here, the prevailing environment was not conducive for winning, so I have decided to resign. It’s the best decision for me and the club.” Odipo told Soka25east.com on phone.

Sources at Awendo indicate that it was just a matter of time before Odipo quits, for he was unwanted guest from the word go; it is said his assistant Salim Babu who assumed the role temporarily when Zico quit last year, did not welcome his signing. A section of fans at Awendo were yesterday heard shouting Salim Babu’s name, calling for his reinstatement as the head coach.

There have also been claims of sabotage from the playing unit, especially from senior players, who are said to be comfortable working with Salim Babu, who guided them to KPL TOP 8 finals last year.

When Zico quit last year, similar claims surfaced.
