Sony Sugar 1-2 Gor Mahia (Moi Stadium)
Mighty Kogalo stayed top of the Kenyan Premier League after a deserved 1-2 win over Sony Sugar at the Kisumu Moi Stadium.
Burly midfielder Ernest Wendo sent Gor Mahia ahead in the 21st minute, breaking loose in the middle and firing a stern shot past the stationary Sony Sugar custodian Kelvin Otieno to give Gor Mahia the deserved lead.
The sugar millers fought relentlessly and got a sweet reply 10 minutes later when January acquisition George Abege beat Boniface Oluoch with his effort to bring the scores to 1-1.
Meddie Kagere, who scored in K’Ogalo’s 1-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz last weekend, was at it again, coming off the bench to restore the visitor’s lead four minutes after the restart in what was an emotional moment for him scoring in back to back important matches.
Tusker 1-1 Ulinzi Stars (Afraha Stadium)
At Afraha it was a vintage game on the cards as defending champions Tusker travelled to clash with former champions Ulinzi Stars in what proved to be a cracker.
Veteran striker Stephen Waruru scored in the 77th minute to put Ulinzi ahead as he recorded his first goal of the season, connecting well with Daniel Waweru’s cross.
The soldiers looked to have done enough only for Tusker’s new signing Hassan Abdalla to grab a late winner that brought matters level and sparing the visitors misery as they find themselves in 13th spot in the log table having only won one game landing at 5 points whereas Ulinzi Stars are sixth in the log table with 8 points having won 2 matches.
Bandari 3-0 Thika United (Mbaraki Sports Club)
At the Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa hosts Bandari came to the game guns blazing firing from all cylinders.Golden boy Ugandan import Dan Mzei Serunkuma was the hero with a brace as they beat visiting Thika United 3-0 in one of the big weekend wins.
The important win ensured the Paul Nkata coached team were placed second in the log table with 10 points that’s two shy of league leaders Gor Mahia.
It was a big win for Ugandan tactician Paul Nkata who left league leaders Tusker in a huff after 2016 league title win only to announce himself in style in Mombasa as Bandari have been staging impressive perfomances under his tutelage.
Thika’s Dennis Odhiambo squandered a penalty kick early on and Danny Sserunkuma made him rue his wastage on 24 minutes by burying his spot kick with aplomb to hand Bandari the lead.
Darius Msagha then doubled the scores for the coastal side in the 39th minute with a beautiful bicycle kick that sent the ball far into the right corner.
Four minutes after the half time break, the dangerous Sserunkuma, a previously league Player of the Year winner, completed his brace sending the ball past a hapless Thika custodian Eliud Emase after being teed off by Shaban Kenga.
Kakamega Homeboyz 1-2 Nzoia Sugar (Mumias Sports Complex)
At the Mumias Complex league returnees Nzoia Sugar under former international Bernard Mwalala ensured they bagged all three points beating host Kakamega homeboys 1-2.
The win propelled Nzoia to 8th in the league table as Homeboyz remained at 11th.
Moses Mudavadi got to the end of a Charles Momanyi cross in the second minute to give Homeboyz a dream start.
Lawrence Juma, with acres of space had the time to pick his spot with a headed effort past Homeboyz goalkeeper Michael Wanyika for Nzoia’s equalizer in the 37th minute.
Former AFC Leopards defender Edwin Wafula wrapped matters up for Nzoia with a successful penalty kick on 68 minutes.
Western Stima 0-0 Chemelil Sugar (Moi Stadium)
Western Stima have found themselves at a precarious position 14 in the league standing with 4 points and only one win.
This was a third winless game for Western Stima as they failed to take advantage of playing at home.
Stima coach Henry Omino had made three changes from the squad that lost to Posta Rangers last weekend, but to no avail.
Zoo Kericho 0-3 Sofapaka (Kericho Green Stadium)
League debutants Zoo Kericho found the going tough at home infront of their cheering fans as visiting Sofapaka demolished them 0-3 in a one sided exciting game by the Batoto Ba Mungu.
The win propelled Sofapaka to third in the league table as Zoo Kericho remained at the very bottom of the 18 team league having lost all their five matches.
Ezekiel Okare opened the scoring for the surging Sofapaka in the sixth minute after being put through by midfielder Paul Odhiambo.
Three minutes later, Odhiambo came through with a goal of his own from a swift counter attack.
Odhiambo, formerly of AFC Leopards, completed his brace in the 60th minute to condemn Zoo to their fifth consecutive defeat this season.
AFC Leopards 1-0 Muhoroni Youth (Mbaraki Sports Club)
AFC Leopards returned to winning ways courtesy of a 1-0 win over hard fighting Muhoroni Youth .
It was An important win for Ingwe putting 4th in the log table with 10 points as they continued to show under coach Stewart Hall they will be a force to reckon this 2017 season.
Allan Kateregga scored the all-important goal of the match in the 35th minute with a nice header off Gilbert Fiamenyo’s flick.
Ingwe players wore black arm bands during the match in honour of club legend Sammy Taabu who passed on last Friday night.
