Ulinzi Stars edge out Sofapaka 1-0 to hit the 50 point mark and move eight points above Sofa in a Kenya Premier League match played at the Afraha Stadium on Monday 7 September.
Ulinzi were only looking for their second win against Sofapaka who have always gotten the better of them with five wins including a 2-1 success last time out, 6 matches having been drawn.
Kevin Amwayi netted the all important goal from a John Nairuka cross mid way through the first half rolling the ball home after David Okello spilled.
Sofapaka had a better second half, threatening the Ulinzi backline but without creating much. The closest they came close to scoring was two minutes after the break but Miami Mbakiye show his effort come off the cross bar.
Ulinzi defended for the entire second half, holding on for the three points and opening a 5 point lead between them and the third-placed Batoto Ba Mungu. Perhaps most crucially though, they once again delayed Gor Mahia’s title celebrations.
They play Kogalo in their next match this coming weekend.
Ulinzi Starting XI; Francis Ochieng'(GK), Brian Birgen, Rodgers Omondi, Geoffrey Kokoyo, Omar Mbongi, Boniface Onyango, John
