Sport Bissau e Benfica are the 2016/2017 Campeonato Nacional da Guiné-Bissau League champions after beating Nuno Tristao Bula FC 1-0 in a match played at National Stadium in Bissau on Wednesday 14 June.

The hosts dominated the match from the start and would have taken the lead early in the game but their striking duo of Cutubo Mane and Hernani Bul proving wasteful in front of goal.

Bula FC keeper stood tall to deny Mane on the 25 minute on a one on one situation. He parried away Hernani’s shot on the 36 minute and a minute later denied Ferna Cu shot with a super save front of goal.

Second half

The breakthrough for Benfica came on the 75th minute of second half when Hernani Bul capitalized on Bula’s defensive lapse to give the home side the lead.

At the end of the match, Benfica coach João Na Tchigna dedicated the title to all the supporters and leaders of the club.

For Fortunato Cardozo (Bodjam), Bissau’s vice-president of the Bissau Eagles, the title was achieved due to the good organization of his team.

The win saw Benefica defend the Guinea Bissau League title they won in 2015.
