Kenya’s leading sports betting firm SportPesa is set to expand its operations in Uganda if talks between the company and the goverment are succesfully concluded.
According to a Kenyan newspaper The Star, the Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Mrs Florence Kiyingi arrived in Nairobi on Wednesday together with other goverment officials to meet SportPesa top brass.
Mrs Kiyingi who also serves as chairperson of Uganda Premier League side Express FC indicated the agenda calling for the country’s league to be supported by the company.
“We are here to start up the dialogue between Sportpesa and Uganda football to ensure that we participate in the East African League (The Sportpesa Super Cup) and also to ensure that SportPesa comes to Uganda to invest in the Uganda league,” said Kiyingi as quoted by Star newspaper.
It is understood that the Minister extended an invitation to the firm earlier this month for talks with a deep notion that if SportPesa invests in the country, then Uganda football will experience same growth as it is in Tanzania and Kenya.
If the talks suceeds SportPesa will have to wait for a period of nine months so as to set up shop in Kampala as per the country’s goverment regulations.
