TEAM UMEME 1-1 METRO SPORTS FC
Team Umeme battled to a one all draw against Metro Sports FC in a firs leg round 11 tie of the ogoing Sportspesa SUPER 8 Premier League on Saturday 13 May at Umeme Sports grounds.
Julius Andende poached the opener for the visiting Sportsmen on the 30th minute after Umeme’s goalie Emmanuel Ogochukwu committed an unforced error spilling the ball path of the midfelider who roled the ball in an empty net for first half lead that lasted for only two minutes as Peterson Kigondi brought the hosts back into contention through a finely taken long range free kick drawing one all at half time.
It was amatch punctuated by evenly distributed scoring opportunities for both sides however Metro looked more abrasive late in the second stanza with Ogochukwu pulling some timely saves to deny aid his side sharer the spoils.
Metro coach Ezekiel Akwana was happy with the one point noting individual mistakes as the barrier towards picking full game points in the match he feels they should have won.
“The performance was good from us; I am satisfied with the point considering we were playing away. We created chances but individual mistakes cost us and we have known our weakness and moving forward we need to work on our striking and defending set-pieces which will be important in our preparation for the upcoming matches.” The former Kenya international and AFC Leopards coach pointed out after the game.
His opposite number from Umeme and former team mate during their playing days at local top flight side Posta Rangers FC Aggrey Ongoli appreciated his squad for their response and picked a few lessons from the outcome.
“With both sides fielding young players of average age I appreciate the draw since it was not an easy game. The response from the team was absolutely brilliant. As team we have learned a lot from this game. Tactically they were more superior than us, their midfield was well organized but we managed to hold on which is important to draw than to drop all the points.” Ongoli said.
As a result of sharing the spoils, Metro now have 15 points at position 7 while Umeme sit with13 points.
KAWANGWARE UNITED 2-0 MASA
At the same time, league leaders KAWANGWARE United showed no signs of slowing down as they registered a comprehensive 2-0 victory over visiting MASA at BP grounds.
First half goals from from veteran goal darter Francis Thairu (6’) and Victor John (36’) ensured Laban Mwangi’s men re-establish a six point ridge on top of the 16-team pile where they sit on 28 points.
The loss for Hasan Andale’s MASA, their second on the bounce leaves them 6th with 17 points.
ZAMALEK FC 4-0 MAMILLAN FC
In another one sided duel, Zamalek FC showcased tremendous superiority in a 4-0 drubbing of fellow new comers Macmillan FC at Drive inn grounds to move to 5th with 20 points.
A second half brace from Raphael Kamau (68’ and 74th) coupled with goals apiece from ERICK Ombija an Harun Omwenga completely dismantled the East conference minnows who are winless in five matches so far leaving them 14th with 7 points.
JERICHO FC 6-2 KIAMBIU YOUTH FC
Kiambiu Youth’s horror campaign lurched from ignominy to the next after being romped 6-2 by Jericho FC in a one sided affair at a packed Camp Toyoyo Stadium.
Raul Gonzales coached Kiambiu were handed their sixth defeat after Oneal Omondi and Bundu Engo netted a brace each with Hansel Ochieng and Antony Njeru adding the other goals as the Thomas Okongo’s Jericho continued with their upward trajectory on the table standing where they now occupy 3 place on 21 points while Kiambiu remain 13th with 7 points.
TUK 1-1 SHAURI MOYO BLUE STARS FC
Elsewhere at CID grounds, Stanly Nyumbu forced a point out of TUK FC after scoring the equalizer on the 52nd minute to hold the 2015 champions to a 1-1 deadlock after Kevin Okomo had given the host the lead four minutes into the match.
With the point, Lukas Aluoch led university students sit 9th on 13 points while Blue Stars are two places below with the same amount of points.
OLE RONGAI FC 1-1 NYSA
Godwin Bandu rescued a valuable point for NYSA as he scored the equalizer on the 83 minute to cancel out kenedy Njenga’s opener three minutes earlier for Rongai who remain at second-bottom of the log with 6 points now while NYSA drops to 4th on 21 points.
