Jericho All Stars versus Shamako Babes akin to David against Goliath battle is just but one of the mouthwatering ties lined up for you this weekend as the biggest grassroots league in the country enters week 17.
In another clash to look forward to, Metro Sports will be out to prove their title credentials against Kiamaiko City away at Huruma Grounds.
Shauri Moyo Blue Stars, TUK and Kayole Asubuhi on the other hand will be angling for an opportunity to catch up or move clear at the helm depending on how log leaders Jericho fair on.
Jericho All Stars vs Shamako Babes
On paper, this is a forgone conclusion for Shamako the whipping boys of the league. Jericho perched at the top on thirty three points is by far the most consistent team thus far in the 16-teams league, a direct sharp opposite of their Saturday opponents who have lost all but one of the sixteen league fixtures to this end.
The East Conference heavyweights are therefore expected to annihilate the West Conference counterparts going by their dominant form..
However it will be remembered that it is Shamako who brought Jericho’s long running unbeaten run to a screeching halt with a 1-0 shock win in the first leg. The match will be staged at Camp Toyoyo.
KIAMAIKO CITY VS METRO SPORTS
Fifth placed Metro Sports will be away at Huruma grounds to Steven Kasamba’s Kiamaiko City who are second-from-the-bottom on the log.
Ezekiel Akwana’s Metro will be seeking to register a brace against the West siders after beating them 2-1 when the two sides met in February at Drive-Inn grounds.
Kiamaiko have 14 points while Metro have 27 points out of a possible 45 points.
SUNDAY MATCHES
KAWANGWARE UNITED VS AJAX
Sixth placed Ajax FC seeks to continue with their title chase with an away win against Kawangware United on Sunday 19 June at BP grounds in Kawangware.
Ajax are gunning for their third consecutive match without a loss in the competition and will have to first overcome their West conference counterparts whom they beat 2-1 at their backyard in their earlier match in February. Ajax have racked up 24 points from more than a dozen matches.
Kawnagware are desperately searching for a win after failing to do so in their last three attempts that place them 13th on the table standings with 16 points.
KAYOLE ASUBUHI VS MELTA KABIRIA
In one of three matches poised to spark fireworks at City Stadium, Kayole Asubuhi faces another hurdle in their title charge when they host Melta Kabiria from 11 am.
When the two sides met in February, Melta pondered an easy win as Asubuhi came from two goals down to narrowly escape with a 3-2 away victory.
Asubuhi have 32 points and will be in high spirits when they take on the West siders who are ranked 11th with 18 points.
KIAMBIU YOUTH VS KABETE UNITED
At the same venue in a lunchtime kick-off, Kiambiu Youth will hope that their talismanic forward James Mandela returned to the squad after a suspension will be in his element when they tackle visiting Kabete United.
Kimabiu Youth sliced Kabete United 2-1 in the reverse fixture and the latter will hope that lightning will not strike the same place twice when the two clash.
Kabete are two points shy of Kiambiu who are 9th with 22 points.
MASA VS SHAURI MOYO BLUE STARS
Makongeni based MASA take on East conference neighbours Shauri Moyo Blue Stars from 3pm.
MASA are keen to extend their winning streak to three successful matches but will first have clash with Blue Stars who are sitting pretty at fourth place with 30 points.
MASA are eight points below the Ken Odera led side at 8th on the table standings and aim to overturn a 2-1 loss in the first leg against Blue Stars.
TUK vs BABA DOGO
In the first match at Toyoyo, high riding TUK will square it out against 12th placed Baba Dogo. Fresh from thrashing Kiamaiko 3-1, the University students will be out for nothing less than a win that could take them top of the log for the first time.
Jeconiah Uyoga on 13 goals will be out to grab some more and match or surpass current leading goal scorer Francis Thairu on 14.
Three points for Baba adds their tally to twenty, and could take them a step forward.
