Kayole Asubuhi with a game at hand responded to Jericho All Stars’ 6-0 thumping of Shamako Babes on Saturday with a 6-2 drubbing of Melta Kabiria to keep tabs with the leaders who are a point ahead on 36.
Kayole could pip the Makadara giants to the helm if they pick maximum points in the pending fixture and take the points tally to 38.
The enthralling week saw goals rain as the top cream flexed their muscles in the title charge. Kayole, TUK and Jericho led the way by putting six a piece past their respective opponents to confirm their giants status.
SUNDAY MATCHES
KAYOLE ASUBUHI 6-2 MELTA KABIRIA
Golden boot early contender Joel Mutua continued with his exploits netting a treble to inspire Kayole Asubuhi thoroughly discipline visiting Melta Kabiria 6-2 on Sunday 19 June at Makongeni grounds.
The forward who now has 11 league goals was hungry for more and set the tone of the match when he sent his side in front in the 17th minute with a beauty of a goal but that was cancelled out by an own goal as Asumani Abdalla let the ball slide in his own net. But that did not faze the home side as Fredrick Wanjohi doubled the lead at the half hour mark as the Kayole based outfit kick-started the final half of the league on solid performance.
With a blunt attacking force and a wobbly defense that failed to contain the early risers, Melta were again punished in the 33rd minute when Tobias Olum fired in the third goal for the East conference team to have their fate on their hands heading in the final half.
A minute after resumption, Olum was on yet again on the score sheet making it 4-1 before Mutua complimented his efforts with his second in the game that completely demoralized their opponents who struggled to get their footing in the game.
Melta were down but not out and Michael Walianda helped resuscitate their dwindling spirits with a second goal for his side in the 74th minute breathing some life in their quest for a win but Mutua negated his efforts three minutes after restart and after that a miracle was not a strong enough word to describe what the West conference teams needed to salvage the situation.
The win for Asubuhi helps them keep their chase second on the table with 35 points while Melta sink to 11th with 18 points.
KIAMBIU YOUTH 1-1 KABETE UNITED
Kiambiu Youth settled and Kabete United settled for a one all draw.
Peter Otiri grabbed the lead for Kiambiu in the 19th minute and the East side boys maintained the tempo with their fast attacks on both flanks but failed to take early chances in the first stanza.
In the second period, Kabete showed some signs of improvement but they lacked composure and calmness while facing the opponent’s danger zone and after a defensive blunder on Kiambiu’s side, the West conference team took their chance in the 64th minute when Patrick Shikuri leveled the proceedings and the scores stood that way until the final whistle.
Kiambiu now have 23 points and sit at 9th while Kabete are two points shy at 10th.
MASA 1-0 SHAURI MOYO BLUE STARS
In what was fancied to be a heated derby, MASA Beat Shauri Moyo Blue Stars 1-0 as the match failed to live up to its billing.
Kevin Liyala was the only man to scribble his name on the score board in the 13th minute for the home team as his goal proved to be difference at the end of the game.
Shauri Moyo continued with their downward spiral as this was their second consecutive loss stagnates at 4th with 30 points while MASA have 25 points and lie 7th on the grid.
AJAX 1-0 KAWANGWARE UNITED
Bedan Kigali helped Ajax xollect the maximum points at home by grabbing thye only goal in the match against Kawangware United at Nakeel grounds.
The hard fought win came late in the second half when Kigali dinked in the all-important goal from within close range that sunk the Francis Thairu led Kawangware who are yet to find their scoring boots in the second leg of the league. The win for AJAX sees them sit pretty at fifth with 27 points while Kawangware on the other hand are 14thy with 16 points.
SATURDAY’S MATCHES:
JERICHO ALL STARS 6-0 SHAMAKO BABES
Jericho All Stars went a points clear atop of the SPS8 table standings after lashing minnows Shamako Babes 5-0 with ruthless efficiency in an enthralling tie on Saturday 18 June at a packed Camp Toyoyo grounds.
The entertaining match reminiscent of the Bible war between David and Goaliath saw speedy forward Victor Walera grab a hat-trick with his goal searching compatriot Eddie Kuria also doing the same on a day the duo run the show as the league leaders savoured sweet revenge against the basement side who halted their unbeaten record back in February with a sour 1-0 win.
Walera opened the floodgates three minutes after kick-off with a clinical finish from near post before lanky Kuria completed his efforts seven minutes later and eighteen minutes after restart he added the second from the penalty spot after a foul in the forbidden area.
Shamako were on the receiving end as they slumbered on the job and Walera made it 4-0 in the 26th minute with a header and later in the 34th minute he completed his treble.
Jericho bossed the second half and Kuria drilled the final nail on Shamako’s coffin with four minutes remaining on the clock.
By collecting the easy three points at home, the Thomas Okongo men extend their stay at the helm of the table with 36 points while Shamako are at the opposite end of the log with 5 points.
TUK 6-2 BABA DOGO UNITED
Earlier on at the same venue, it was a goal bonanza as TUK taught visiting Baba Dogo United a hard lesson disciplining them 6-2 in a one sided match.
A solid defence and a superb display of cool and composed one-two passes outclassed the East conference team in a chilly afternoon in Jericho estate.
Evans Otieno scrambled home the opener for TUK 3 minutes in for a slender lead that was negated by John Mark for Baba Dogo in the 21st minute.
Steve Odhiambo then restored the lead for the students with four minutes before the first half break before Otieno completed his brace in the 57th minute for a 3-1 lead. Baba Dogo tried in vain to rescue the situation but Odhiambo rubbed salt on the injury in the 69th minute when he slotted home his second in the game.
As if that was not enough, the forward completed his hat-trick late in the game when he shook the net in the 85th minute and two minutes later Boaz Mwagoi completed the rout with a sublime finish from near post.
Baba Dogo got their second goal when Francis Ogawa acted on a keeper’s spillage to ensure his side went down with their heads high.
The outcome means that TUK are 3rd on the league table standings with 33 points while Baba Dogo are 12th with 17 points.
KIAMAIKO CITY 1-0 METRO SPORTS
Moses Wakaya scored the all-important goal as Kiamaiko City pulled a surprised win over pre-match favourites Metro Sports at Huruma grounds.
The victory saw Kiamaiko move to 13th on the grid with 17 points while Metro drop to fifth with 27 points.
