In what portends better tidings for South Sudan football this New Year, South Sudan Football Association boss Mr. Chabur Goc Alei and Minister for Sports Hon. Nadia Arop Dudi have decided to bury the hatchet.
The duo have been at loggerheads for the better part of 2016, with the latter being linked with two coups that rocked SSFA in the year – leading to illegal ouster of Chabur by a section of the federation’s Board of Directors, who accused him of financial impropriety.
However, the two met over the holidays in Juba, with Chabur playing host, in the presence of Minister for Roads and Bridges Hon. Rebecca Kuwashi, and agreed “to reconcile” and “to end fighting.”
“It’s good for the future of football in our country,” Chabur said of the significance of the truce, adding he has never had more enjoyable holidays before.
The infightings led to suspension of the topflight league, and the country almost missed representation in this year’s CAF Champions League.
Hon. Nadia has since written a letter to CAF and FIFA affirming that the government only recorgnises Mr. Chabur as the President of SSFA.
SSFA is due to have its elections March 2017, but Chabur who at one point at the height of the leadership wrangles threw in the towel, is still tight lipped whether he will defend his seat or not, “It’s still early to talk about that.”
