Referees in Kenyan Premier League have once again been brought into
spotlight due to poor officiating, this time by Mathare United coach
Stanley Okumbi.
In a 2-2 draw against KCB, the tactician was left infuriated by some
decisions which he believes cost his side maximum points. Okumbi has
however, revealed all is not lost in the top tier, and something
should be done right now to avoid complains by teams over officiating.
“It is frustrating when a referee makes a wrong call, it lowers morale
in the players, who feel they have been denied their right. A referee
should always be keen in his decision making, and most important be
consistent in his judgments,” Okumbi told Goal on Tuesday.
“For instance, when a team is struggling to hold onto its lead and or
to come into the game and a wrong call is made, it is like literally
killing the players. We should have better, competitive referees in
the league, the once, who can help the game grow.
