A tough week 17 of the Ethiopia Premier League came to a close on Tuesday with only four wins and four goals being registered across the seven fixtures played.
Newly promoted Diredawa under the command of the only woman premier league coach in Africa Meseret Manni were among the victors, with a shock 1-0 beating of the mighty St.George at the Diredawa Stadium.
Former Defense and Ethiopia Coffee player Dawit Estifanos netted the only goal of the tight tie to hand the Iron Lady of African football her seventh league win of the season.
Diredawa climbed to sixth on the log with 25 points, eleven points a drift of the horsemen who leads the 14 team league with 36 points, and are on course to back to back titles.
Meseret guided the Diredawa City outfit to the top flight football last year from the National League and has thus far proved equal to the task or even better than some of her male counterparts in the men’s league.
With an impressive record of seven wins, six loses and four draws, Diredawa sits nine points clear off the danger zone as the league matures – by far a great achievement for a new entrant into the top league.
Their next tie will on May 8 away to bottom based Hadiya; while Kidus Giorgis on the other hand will host fourth placed Ethiopia Bunna on the same day.
