Sudan will be eyeing their second consecutive Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) Group A win when they clash with Mauritania at the Mohamed V Stadium in Morocco on Wednesday.
The Falcons of Jediane recorded an impressive 2-1 victory over a youthful Guinean side in their opening Group A encounter on Sunday evening.
Omer Koko and Saifeldin Bakhit scored the two important goals of the night for the Sudan in an explosive encounter that was played at the same venue.
Sudan are currently placed second of Group B standings with Morocco’s Lions of Atlas on top with three points and four goals.
Zdravko Logarusic, who is the Falcons head coach, will look to experienced forward Mohamed Bashir to lead Sudan to victory once again having played an important role in the match against Guinea.
Meanwhile, Mauritania will be out to avoid another defeat when they lock horns with a motivated Sudan side on Wednesday evening.
The Al-Murabitun were overpowered 4-0 by a ruthless Morocco side in their maiden Group A encounter on Saturday afternoon.
Mauritania are currently placed at the bottom of Group A standings with Guinea in the third position who also don’t have any point – having conceded two goals.
Mauritania head coach Corentin Martins was not happy with his team performance in the opening game against the hosts and he is expecting an improved game tonight.
“The first half was a miracle, we were able to abort many attempts, but the Moroccans managed to dominate the game in the second half,” Martins told reporters after the match.
“It is normal. They [Morocco] work on themselves intensively, some of the players won the Champions League. There are too many differences between our players and theirs.”
Morocco will meet Guinea in Casablanca and they will be hoping to reach the last eight once they scoop a win in the match.
