Absa Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs will compete for the newly launched Shell Helix cup today.The pre-season fixture will run for the next three years and the two football giants will battle it out for the trophy.
The match will battle it out at FNB Stadium kickoff 15:00.Stadium Management Chief Executive Officer Jacques Grobelaar says that the fixture is a great way for football fans to see the best talent on display.
Kaizer Chiefs new coach Giovanni Solinas is not expected to be on the bench.The final paperwork for Solinas work permit will be submitted at Home affairs on Thursday.
Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung feels the one- off clash should be an exciting one for everyone involved.
“It’s historical for Shell for the first time to be involved in football and for us to ( Chiefs) to be playing a tournament with Sundowns”he said
“It is important to play more of this pre-season tournaments to help gauge the players ahead of the new season”he added.
The Gauteng provincial government will assist with logistical arrangements as the host province.Tickets are available at Computicket and Shoprite/ Checkers from R70 upwards
The broadcast rights have been picked by the SABC and while the associate sponsorships signed with Vodacom.
