Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs have set up an epic finish to the ABSA Premiership title race after both teams lost in rather dramatic fashion on Sunday.
Kaizer Chiefs who were looking for a victory conceded a goal deep into referee’s added time against Bidvest Wits at their usual tramping ground, the FNB Stadium. Bienvenu Eva Nga scored in the 95th minute to hand Wits a 1-0 win. The result somewhat hard on Chiefs who dominated large parts of the game and even had claims for a legitimate penalty turned down.
Amakhosi also suffered an injury blow in the game with Daniel Akpeyi having to go off after a collision with Mxolisi Machupu just before halftime, he was replaced by Bruce Bvuma.
Baroka stopped Pitso Mosimane’s team from leapfrogging Kaizer Chiefs on the log table with a shocking sucker punch of their own.
Going into this game Masandawana had a good run after beating Golden Arrows and log leaders Kaizer Chiefs.
It took a set-piece for Baroka to find the back of the net as Tshediso Patjie swang in a corner that found Ananias Gebhardt who out jumped the Masandawana defence and beat Kennedy Mweene to take the win.
Both teams remain tied on 53 points with Amakhosi having a better goal difference.
The results mean its still in Kaizer Chiefs’ hands with both teams in action on Wednesday. Sundowns face Polokwane city Loftus Versfeld while Chiefs are up against Chippa United at the Orlando Stadium.
