Sundowns down Zamalek in first leg of CAF Champions League Final

A masterclass performance saw Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa beat Egypt’s Zamalek 3-0 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League Final at the Lucas Moripe stadium in Pretoria this afternoon.

Liberian striker Anthony Laffor opened the scoring for the Brazilians in the 31st minute with a well taken strike.

Tebogo Lanagerman doubled the lead on 39 minutes after his cross caught Zamalek goalkeeper  El Shenawy off his line.

Langerman’s cross bouncing off the upright and into the net to give Masandawana a 2-0 lead.

The game was over as soon as the second half resumed. Percy Tau forced in a third goal on 46 minutes via a deflection off Islam Gamal past goal keeper El Shenawy.

Zamalek went in search of an away goal as the home side sat back anticipating a late onslaught.

Bassem Morsi came close for the five time CAF Champions League Winners in the 70th minute but couldn’t find the net.

The Zamalek goalkeeper was then forced to leave the pitch after suffering what seemed to be muscle strain and in came Mahmoud Genesh in the final moments of the game.

Sundowns held on to record a 3-0 scoreline.

A good result for Pitso Mosimane to take to Alexandria in the second leg.
